THE BODY SHOP Extra Virgin Minerals Liquid Foundation

THE BODY SHOP EXTRA VIRGIN MINERALS LIQUID FOUNDATION

These are fairly new in the market. If I remember right, these were launched early this year. I got them right after they were available in the market.

It's kinda weird to be doing a review on this first because I got the Extra Virgin Minerals Cream Compact Foundation first. ANYWAY, I'll make a review on that soon..(my bad!)

This foundation is a bit pricey. I think it retails for about Php 1, 400.00 (more or less). The great news is, The Body Shop is constantly and consistently holding product sales that go as high as 70% off.

The Extra Virgin Minerals line consist of this liquid foundation, a cream compact one, and a loose mineral powder. (reviews on the others to follow!)

This line is not meant to replace the "normal" foundation line of TBS. Those are still existing, although I haven't tried any of those yet.

As you can see from the pictures above, the product comes in a pump glass bottle. It's not the most ideal make up dispenser (hence a bit of the product messing up the cap), but once the cap is secure, everything holds up pretty well.

One great thing about TBS' foundations is that the color range is broad. It's also ideal for the Filipina skin tone as half of the shades available have yellow undertones.

Referring to the swatch above, you can tell that this shade is too dark for my skin tone. Let me explain.

As I have written earlier, my first purchase from this line was the cream compact foundation. My shade there was golden beige. After using it and being impressed on how it performed, I decided to buy the loose powder and the liquid foundation as well, both in golden beige (only makes sense!!).

The loose powder blended pretty well. However, the liquid foundation was a complete disaster! It was 5 times darker than my real shade! The TBS sales lady did not give me any warning (to think that I was a frequent customer). I wasn't able to swatch the product before buying it because I thought I already knew my shade. NOT.

Moral lesson: when buying liquid foundation, swatch NO MATTER WHAT. NO EXCUSES.

To save the darn thing, I mix skin moisturizer (usually white) with it in order to dull the intensity of the color.

Another negative thing about this is that it's way too oily!! I have combination skin and I do get oily on some parts of my face. This just does NOT help at all. Even if I top it with a ton of loose WHITE powder (again, to dull the color), I still get oily after 2 hours of wear. I hate this thing.

I let my mom use it sometimes. I make her mix it with my nichido cream stick concealer. She's got dry skin so I guess that works for her.

If there's one good thing I found in this product, it has to be its "one small pump goes a long way" thing. That's about it. My mom gets a good use out if it, so whatevs. She's almost always in an air-conditioned room so her make up's always in place. Because of that, I'd say it's STILL money well spent.

Bottom line, if you've got dry skin, USE this. If you've got oily-combination skin or you work in a humid environment, STAY AWAY.
